Rainy Day Dreaming
It’s been raining in California. A lot. It’s not over yet either.
I love the rain, and on these rainy/blustery days when we are trapped indoors, decor feels super important. I mean, it’s always important, but being surrounded by cozy and comforting textures and lighting seems essential during winter weather.
These are the things I’ve been dreaming about…
Plaid
It might be because it’s Christmas time, but the bright colors of plaid seem like festive little bright spots in the dreary weather. Plaid was very popular when I was growing up in the 80s (along with florals), but, it’s making a comeback in a chic and sophisticated way. A huge plaid blanket would be perfection right now.
Textured Blankets
Huge textured blankets look so cozy and luscious. Pure luxury to dive under the covers and make a little cocoon.
Sheepskin Rugs
People are putting these everywhere! On the floor, on chairs, on beds, on couches. It’s crazy, but it always looks amazing. Ikea has a small one, but Rugs USA also has them in various sizes. They just make me want to dig my toes inside and wiggle them around over the soft, cottony fibers.
Tents/forts
Did you do this when you were a kid? I loved it. But back then we just used blankets and couch cushions. Apparently, forts have been taken to another level of fabulous.
Have you ever seen The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet? Ugh! I love that movie! There is an amazing fort in the kid’s room in it. The decor of the women’s houses is so incredible as well. I am in love with the house Cameron Diaz lives in. But Kate Winslet lives in the most perfect little cottage, aptly named Rose Cottage. I love a house with a name. There is a house in the hills near where I live and they named it Shalomar. Just put a plaque out front with the name on it. Maybe we should all start naming our houses and putting the name on our mailboxes with those sticky letters?
Lol, anyway, sidetrack… It’s the perfect movie to watch on a rainy day.
Good Boots
This one isn’t really decor related, but there is nothing worse that being outside in the wet and the cold with water seeping through your shoes and drenching your socks every time you take a step. I love Hunter Boots. They look so chic and classic. These quilted ones are what dreams are made of. And, the British royal family has been wearing them for decades. Hey, if they are good enough for the royal family, they’re good enough for me.
When William was just a glimmer in his Mother’s eye…
Comfort Food
Comfort food was made for days like these. Chili is one of my go-to cold weather meals. It’s easy to make and lasts for days. I usually use this recipe, but add tons to toppings (as you can see). Cheddar cheese, cilantro, Greek yogurt (instead of sour cream).
What are your favorite comfort things in winter weather?
ooox,
